| The Bridge Federation of Asia & Middle East (BFAME)
is the Zone-4
of World Bridge Federation (WBF)
with a membership of 12 countries.The 15th
BFAME Championships will be held at Amman, Jordan at The
Regency Palace Hotel from Friday 26th June, 2009 till
Saturday 4th July, 2009. At least nine Opan and five Women
The Finalists in in each category, i.e. two teams each from the Open for the 39th Bermuda Bowl and two teams from the Women for the 17th Venice Cup and two teams from the Seniors for the 5th Seniors Bowl would be representing this Zone and their respective countries in Sao Paulo, Brazil from August 26th till September 12th later this year. Pakistan Open have won the BFAME Championships for a record 6 times, (once jointly with South Africa in 1999) followed by India 5 times, South Africa thrice, (once jointly with Pakistan in 1999) and Egypt once. Indian Women have completely dominated as they have won a record 8 times out of 13, (they missed out the 4th BFAME in Sri Lanka in 1987) in which they have participated while Egypt thrice and South Africa twice while the current champions Jordan have won it once in 2007 in Karachi. In the Seniors, Bahrain , Bangladesh and India have all won it once while twice for Pakistan as Bangladesh and Pakistan were joint winners in 2005 in Dhaka. Pakistan happens to be the only country to have featured in all the three categories of BFAME since its inception in 1980. Jordan happens to be the first country to host BFAME Championships thrice and also the only country to have hosted the maximum number of teams. There were 21 in 1995 when present day Zone-8 was part of our zone and this time we shall have 20 teams, a record participation indeed. This championship will use Bridge Mates for the 2nd time and would upload matches LIVE throughout on the Internet and a few on BBO. During the Championships, there will also be four session of Friendship Pairs, after the qualifying rounds of the main Championships, on 2nd July 2 Sessions and one each on 3rd & 4th July, 2009.Entry Fee for any one Open, Women or Senior Team would be US$ 2,000/-, However combined entry fee for two or three teams would be US$ 3,500/- or US$ 5,000/-. A discount of US$ 300/- per team is being offered to teams occupying a minimum of two rooms at the venue hotel. Entry Fee for Friendship Pairs would be US$ 25/- per pair & JD 20/- per pair.
